COVID-19
WHAT WE ARE DOING TO PROTECT OUR CLIENTS, PATIENTS AND TEAM

covid-19 update May 23rd 2020

Since mid-March, we have been following the direction of government and regulatory authorities and restricting the services that we have been providing. We have also been changing the way we operate to help protect our staff and clients while still serving our community.

With recent changes to restrictions on businesses, we are pleased to advise that restrictions on veterinary practices have been lifted.

This means we can now see all cases by appointment only including pets in need of:

-Vaccines
-Wellness exams
-Blood work
-Parasite prevention
-Spays and neuters
-Dental services
and more!
Based on these changes, below are some important updates to our operating policies.

Over the next few weeks, a member of our team will contact you to reschedule any services that were postponed. We kindly ask that you be patient and allow us time to catch up.
To schedule an appointment, please call us at 604-464-6666 or email us at info@pocovet.com.

The safety of our team members and clients is very important to us. As such, we will continue to follow all provincial health standards by having extensive cleaning protocols, wearing masks and gloves, and practicing physical distancing as much as possible within our teams. We will also:
  • Continue our "closed waiting room" policy to protect our clients and staff. When you arrive, please remain outside the hospital and use your cell phone to call us. We will take a history of your pet's health and discuss any concerns. A staff member will then meet you outside to bring your pet into the hospital for an examination. The Veterinarian will call you to discuss the recommended treatment plan. After your appointment, a staff member will return your pet to you outside, and take care of any needed medications and payment.
  • Continue the use of credit cards as the preferred payment method.
Continue with curbside pickup of food and medication (unless you have used our online store and are having your order delivered directly to your home). To place an order through our online store, visit our website and click on "Online Store".

Our temporary hours of operation are still in effect. We are available to serve you and your pets during the following hours:
Monday - Friday: 7:30 am ? 7:00 pm
Saturday: 8:00 am ? 6:00 pm
Sunday: 8:00 am ? 5:00 pm

PLEASE NOTE WE WILL BE CLOSED  FROM 1PM-2PM DAILY

Thank you for your patience and understanding and we look forward to seeing you and your furry family members again!
If you have any questions, please email us at info@pocovet.com or call us at 604-464-6666. Due to higher than normal call volume, we may not be able to answer the phone right away. Please leave us a message or send us an email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

important NOTICE FOR CLIENTS

2020-03-13

Before entering the clinic, Please notify us if you are experiencing ill symptoms.
To limit possible exposure and limit clinic traffic. We advise you to call upon arrival and wait in your vehicle/outside and we will call when it is your turn.
We are happy to help you outside if necessary
At Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital, the ongoing health and safety of our clients, their pets, and the dedicated team members that serve the community, is our top priority.

We are committed to maintaining a clean and sanitary environment and adhere to a strict standard of protocols to achieve this.
As you have heard, the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is occuring in Canada with cases reported in several provinces. To keep up-to-date, we are following guidelines for best practices from local, national and international health authorities.

In light of recent news, we will be taking additional measures to ensure that our veterinary hospital is cleaned and sanitized more frequently, particularly in the client-facing areas like reception and waiting areas.

We are confident that continued vigilance will help keep our work environment safe, and all those who are in it healthy. Please help us by using hand sanitizer available in the reception area.

If you have concerns about visiting our hospital or waiting with your pet, please call ahead to discuss options such as pet drop-off.
In addition, we ask that if you are feeling any symptoms such as a cough, fever, or difficulty breathing, please call our veterinary hospital so that we can reschedule your appointment or discuss alternate arrangements to ensure that your pet receives the care it needs.
Note that currently there is limited evidence that pets can be infected with the virus, and no evidence that they can be a source of infection to other animals or to humans. We encourage you to speak to one of our veterinarians or technicians if you have questions or need more clarification.

For up-to-date guidance on companion animals and the Coronavirus, please refer to the World Small Animal Veterinary Association website: https://wsava.org/
We will continue to provide updates as more information and guidelines become available.

Sincerely,
Your dedicated team at Port Coquitlam Animal Hospital

Changes to clinic drop in procedures

Due to the increase in morning appointments and surgery we have adjusted our schedule and will no longer be offering drop in nail trims, Anal expressions, Fluid therapy or Cartrophen injections between 9 am-12 pm.

We understand this will be an inconvenience for a lot of you but feel it is necessary to let our staff focus on appointments and surgery and therefore keeping our standard of care high.

You can now drop in for these services between 2 pm-5 pm

Please contact us if you have any questions

Marijuana and your pets

Picture
With the upcoming Marijuana regulations set to change soon here is an update on how we are preparing.

Our staff have taken an updated credited toxicology course on how to effectively and safely treat pets who may ingest THC in Marijuana.

Marijuana just like any toxin (Chocolate, xylitol etc) we understand can be accidentally ingested as it becomes something you may enjoy and use in your life. We urge all pet owners to practice safe storage as you would do with any other toxin and please note there will be no judgement on our part as with any legal or illegal toxin if your pet is to come into contact with it our only goal is to work with you to keep your pet as safe and healthy as possible.

For owners interested in using CBD products for their pets health benefit, we have limited researched information from health Canada on uses in pets as of yet. Our staff are waiting for the ongoing research into the health benefits of CBD products so we will not be able to prescribe or recommend CBD right now.

Please make sure if you do choose to purchase a CBD product without advisement of a Veterianian that alot of these products are unregulated and may not contain the actual amount of CBD listed and some have been known to have contained THC that was not listed on the label. Please seek a reliable source and work closely with us to watch for any adverse side effects.

We hope to see positives in the health industry in the future with regulated uses of CBD and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to ask a member of staff or schedule a time to speak to one of our Doctors.

For patients on Mobility Support do not fret, we are here to help you transition from your current diet onto the new one.
